Platform of Trust wants to eliminate bottlenecks so that data can flow freely and generate added value. The platform solution developed by the company helps to solve problems related to the availability and sharing of data.

The goal of EU data strategy is that data can move freely between EU member states and various operating fields. Apart from personal data, all data could move freely and the enhanced availability of data would benefit companies, public organisations, and citizens.

The idea of the data strategy is excellent, but it also raises concerns among operators. Companies that share data worry about the security of their operations and whether hostile parties can use the shared data against those sharing it.

Platform of Trust Oy has developed a secure, functional, and easy-to-use solution for this problem. According to Antti Harjunpää, the CEO, the company aims to harmonise data in terms of content and technology, transfer it away from decentralised silos, and streamline the sharing and use of data.

– At the present time, the knowledge capital of the world is held back at the bottlenecks of data flows. Our task is to free data to flow without compromising on security and the protection of privacy and property. We provide opportunities to combine data produced by several organisations smartly, which enables the generation of more added value from it, says Harjunpää.

The platform helps to solve technical and juridical challenges

According to Harjunpää, the operating principle of Platform of Trust is to offer a platform that brings together the providers and utilisers of data. With the platform, data can be directed from different kinds of environments and systems to any application and user interface.

The users of the platform can utilise data sources that are available through the platform and the technical solutions of the platform ecosystem independently, as the technological interfaces and development tools are easy to use. The users of the platforms have access to dozens of data sources and solutions offered by Platform of Trust’s partners. The number of data sources and technological solutions linked with the ecosystem can also be easily increased.

Harjunpää and Susanna Halinen, who works with contract law matters related to Platform of Trust, emphasise that the enabling of a freer flow of data requires not only technology but also advanced contract models. Parties that share and use data must be able to agree upon the terms and conditions related to the use and sharing of data easily, accurately, and reliably.

– Our platform enables controlling the technical and juridical opportunities to use and share data. Our contract models allow organisations to specify how and for which purposes the data they produce can be used and shared onwards. Contracts made between operators control the operation of our data tool and the use opportunities of data. Both parties will also see how the data has been shared, says Harjunpää.

Data produces added value to the organisation

The data flows generated by Platform of Trust create endless opportunities for organisations. Nazia Hasan, the Head of Design of Platform of Trust, and Halinen mention an example from the construction industry.  The Confederation of Finnish Construction Industries RT (CFCI), the joint interest organisation in the sector, has started to collect anonymised accident report data published by its member companies to enable the entire sector to learn about the prevention of accidents.

CFCI has chosen the most suitable technology partner for analysing this accident report data, and the use and sharing of the data is being controlled through Platform of Trust.

– Construction companies have a statutory obligation to report occupational accidents. Now, the lessons learned from the data can be shared with a wider group, which enables the occupational safety of the entire sector to be developed, says Hasan.
